WHEN GROWN MEN WEAR PINK PANTS - THE STORY OF NANTUCKET REDS

A few years ago I was showing my friend Marti pictures of my family and she said, "why is your Dad wearing pink pants?" to which I predictably responded "they're not pink, they're red".  She examined the photo more closely and said, "those are definitely pink."   Marti has never lived anywhere but Idaho and Utah where real men have a varied and manly wardrobe of dark blue pressed Wranglers for weddings, medium blue Wranglers for work and faded Wranglers for fishin' and steer ropin'.  She couldn't conceive of why any man would be caught in public wearing a straight face and pink pants.  So, I told her again, "they are not pink, they are Nantucket Red."  She looked at me with an eyebrow raised as if to say, "uh huh, that makes all the difference."

So why do preppy New Englanders wear pink pants - ahem, salmon colored pants?  Legend has it that Phillip Murray, the owner of Murray's Toggery Shop (original seller of Nantucket Reds) was wearing his stone colored khakis when he fell in a cranberry bog and stained them cranberry red.  Now if that doesn't sound like a tall tale worthy of Bert & I, I'm not sure what does.  The story may be false but the legend of Nantucket Reds is alive and well after almost 70 years.

The true story is that the Nantucket Reds of today had their humble beginnings in 1945 when Murray's Toggery Shop was founded on Main Street in Nantucket.  Murray's was started as a men's clothing shop and they sold red sailcloth pants.  After several washings, the pants faded to the salmon color we associate with Nantucket Red.    The pants became so popular, Phillip C. Murray called them Nantucket Red and trademarked the name.  So, if you want the real original Nantucket Reds, you simply have to go to Nantucket to buy them from Murray's.  Barring that, you can buy them from Murray's online.

Once you have your Nantucket Reds, try pairing them with Chatham Ivy's Lab Cruiser Tee.  You'll be the talk of Nantucket!

  3. these pants are a very tight fit, I had bought the standard size I wore at the time, which was a 35-36, depending on type of pant
    (different companies cut slightly differently).
I noticed that if I washed them they would get tighter, I was correct.
Even following the instructions on the label, they still shrunk partially.

  4. I think Pink jeans for men wouldn't really look unpleasant after reading this post. I think it just needs to be a good color blend for men to wear pink jeans. They are demanding fashion now a days and all stores do keep them https://www.g3fashions.in/men-bottomwear-jeans.html
